Mark Wood harnesses 'nervous energy' as England seek fast finish to group stage

Fast bowler admits he suffered doubts after loss to Australia, but bounced back against Oman

Wood: ‘Happy with how I’ve bowled apart from one stinking over’

Mark Wood admitted England had been aware of “a few negatives flying around” in the lead-up to their crucial victory over Oman on Thursday, but said he had harnessed the “nervous energy” to help deliver a statement performance that has got the team’s T20 World Cup back on track. With nothing less than victory required, Wood proved too hot to handle in his fierce three-over burst against Oman. He struck twice in his opening powerplay over, including a return catch first-ball, and finished with 3 for 12 as Oman were rolled aside for 47 in 13.2 overs.England’s fate is still not entirely in their own hands despite rushing to their target in just 19 balls, to revive their flagging net run rate. Assuming they overcome Namibia on Saturday, in what will be the first T20I between the two teams, they will still require Australia to beat Scotland 24 hours later to confirm their place in the Super Eight. But, after a washout in their own match against Scotland, followed by a 36-run loss to Australia in Barbados last week that had left them needing such favours, Wood was delighted with the focussed display that England produced to see off Oman, given the doubts that had been swirling externally about the team’s readiness to defend the title that they won two years ago.”It feels great,” Wood said. “We had to put a stamp on the game … the table didn’t look great obviously before, but it looks a lot better now. There’s still work to do, but I’m feeling a lot better about things after this game.”Wood himself had come in for particular criticism during the Barbados leg of the campaign, not least in the Australia defeat where – on a surface that was not suited to raw pace – he was taken apart by David Warner in the powerplay, conceding three sixes and a four in a 22-run opening over.Mark Wood bowled with pace to claim three wickets against Oman•ICC via Getty ImagesHe came back well from that indignity, conceding just ten runs in his next two overs by resorting to a diet of cutters, but it was not sufficient to rescue England’s position in the contest.”I’ve been pretty happy with how it’s gone apart from that one really stinking over,” Wood said, having previously been England’s most economical option in the two overs he was able to bowl before the Scotland match was abandoned. “I know I’ve come in for a lot of flak and a lot of stick in the last few days, but I was determined to put on another performance.”I was probably more pleased with the fact that I came back [against Australia], showed some resilience and actually bought some cutters which isn’t natural to me. Normally I’m just trying to bowl quick so to use some guile and some skill, I was pleased. There were obviously doubts about me keeping my spot, but I’ve been quietly trying to keep my focus to perform for the team.”Part of that focus, Wood said, had come from working with David Young, the team psychologist who aided England’s 2019 World Cup campaign and who has been brought back to the squad on a consultancy basis from his current role with Manchester City.”Self-doubt is common for players,” he said. “I was speaking to Youngy about more of the things that I focus on, rather than outcome all the time.”Of course, you have doubts every game you play for England,” he added. “I don’t think there’s a cricketer who doesn’t have a little bit of self-doubt, but the nerves before the game, that’s what helps people bowl fast as well, because you have that nervous energy, that excitement.Related

“You want to perform, you’re out there in front of cameras, the millions of people watching, the media, opposition … it’s all judgment, so you’ve got to just remember your focus and what you’re trying to do. In Twenty20 it’s a bit different, isn’t it? You can bowl really well and get whacked, or you can bowl rubbish and get two or three wickets. So, it’s the realisation that you’re doing the right things in your own mind.”Above all else, Wood was pleased with the ruthlessness of England’s victory over Oman, first with the ball and in the field, and then with the bat during their rapid run-chase. However, the team are still reliant on another display of ruthlessness from Australia against Scotland, if their mini-revival is to count for anything in the qualification stakes. All the talk in the build-up to the Oman match had centred around Josh Hazlewood’s suggestion that Australia might go easy on Scotland to help knock England out early. Far from being fired up by the notion, however, Wood said the team had taken that suggestion as a compliment, adding that they had no doubts that Australia would be gunning for victory, as ever, on Sunday.”I think that’s part of being England and Australia, isn’t it?” he said. “I think actually I saw it more as a respect thing, if I’m honest, that he was saying that England have done well against Australia in the recent past and thinks we’re a big threat and a big team, so I have no problem with it.”He did, however, admit it would be slightly strange to be cheering on Australia in the final group game.”I know I’m close to the Scottish border [coming from Durham] and Australia and Scotland are England’s rivals… but we’ll obviously be supporting Australia because we’re trying to get through,” he said.”We have got to show a little bit more and then fingers crossed for Australia. Then when you are through to that next stage every team can go on from there. I’m absolutely confident they’ll play the game their hardest, that’s the Australian way. They’ll play hard and fair and try to get the win.”

49ers learn Leeds can sign midfielder who scored against PSG for just £10m

Leeds United chiefs 49ers Enterprises have now been told it will cost just £10 million to sign an “unbelievable” English midfielder this summer.

Lukas Nmecha kicks off Leeds' summer business

The transfer window has now officially reopened after closing for a week, and the Whites haven’t wasted any time in getting a signing over the line. On Sunday afternoon, Leeds announced that Lukas Nmecha has agreed to join the club and become their first new face of the summer transfer window.

The next Gray: Leeds now want to sign "complete" £30m star after Nmecha

Daniel Farke could be about to purchase his next Archie Gray if Leeds United successfully win this versatile youngster.

ByKelan Sarson Jun 16, 2025

The Germany international has joined the Yorkshire side on an initial two-year deal and will arrive on the 1st of July, once his contract has expired at Wolfsburg. Nmecha is already known to English football, having developed in Manchester City’s academy as well as having spells at Preston and Middlesbrough.

Nmecha told Leeds’s media team: “It’s just a great challenge, and I’m really excited to get to know the team. I’ve spoken with the manager many times, and I’m excited to play that style of football that they played in the Championship, even in the Premier League. I saw that there was dominance last season in terms of possession and the goals. I’m an attacking player, so obviously that’s exciting for me.

“Of course, in the Premier League, there are some big boys in there where you can’t play like that all the time, but I think the idea of the manager is to play good football, possession football, and that’s what I’m used to and what I love doing.

“I wish we could get going now, but we still have a few weeks of pre-pre-season, getting the runs in and all that! But I just can’t wait to start training now.”

Leeds told it will cost £10m to sign Champions League midfielder

With Nmecha now officially through the door, the 49ers are turning their attentions to Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, and according to Football Insider, suitors have been told a bid of just £10 million will be accepted this summer.

It was reported in May that Leeds were plotting a double swoop for Callum Wilson and Longstaff, who is earning £50,000 a week at Newcastle.

Entering the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, the update claims his future “definitely” lies away from Tyneside.

Daniel Farke is keen to add Premier League experience to his midfield this summer, but he won’t have a free run at Longstaff, as David Moyes’ Everton are also keen on the midfielder.

Sky Sports: Berta now identifies £100m PL star among top Arsenal targets

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has a few intriguing players on his extensive shortlist of targets for the north Londoners, and one of them is now believed to be a marquee Premier League star.

Arsenal pursuit of new winger suggests dressing room shake-up

Bukayo Saka’s three-month lay-off midway through 2024/2025, combined with Leandro Trossard’s contract expiring in 2026, has reportedly prompted Berta to enter the market for a quality new wide player.

While there’s no outright plan to sell Gabriel Martinelli, a recent piece from The Athletic suggested that Berta and Mikel Arteta would entertain substantial offers, with the Brazilian valued at around £50 million.

Given Arsenal already have an abundance of proven wide-players, including the emergence of highly-rated starlet Ethan Nwaneri, ex-Gunners defender Mikael Silvestre is convinced the club’s interest in signing another winger could indicate a dressing room shake-up.

“I’d be wary of bringing in too many wingers like Nico Williams through the door,” Silvestre told Esports Insider.

“You need to give Ethan Nwaneri some game time; they have Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli already.

“I don’t see why they’d want to bring another winger unless one of those players wants to leave or if the club are planning to break the bank on a world-class wide player. It would surprise me if the club spent heavily on a striker and a winger in the same window.”

Given the high-profile names eyed by Berta, it is very reasonable to assume that Arsenal could indeed splash the cash on a world-class winger.

Andrea Berta identifies Morgan Rogers as a top Arsenal target

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas, writing in a piece for the broadcast giant, claims Aston Villa sensation Morgan Rogers is on the club’s agenda – alongside the heavily-linked Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich) and Athletic Bilbao’s Williams.

England'sEberechiEzecelebrates scoring their third goal with England's Morgan Rogers

The Englishman is fresh off the back of an excellent campaign under Unai Emery, racking up 14 goals and 15 assists in all competitions after becoming a very important player for Villa.

Rogers finished 2024/2025 as Villa’s second-best performer in the Premier League by average match rating per 90, according to WhoScored, all while completing more successful take-ons than all of his teammates.

His rise to the top has even prompted NSWE to slap a £100 million valuation on the 22-year-old’s head to deter suitors, but according to Sky’s Thomas, Berta has identified Rogers as one of his top Arsenal targets for the wide area regardless.

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

There is little denying that, if Arsenal were to formalise their interest in Rogers, they’d be looking to bring down his mammoth reported price tag. However, the former Middlesbrough man could certainly be worth that effort.

“I think he’s going to be a player,” said pundit Tony Cascarino.

“He really looks, there’s something about, he reminds me a little bit of Jamal Musiala. He’s that guy that picks up the ball, and he’ll just make runs, and he’ll create problems for others. He’s got a lot about him.”

He's more exciting than Rodrygo: Arsenal submit bid for "monster" attacker

Silly season is here, and it looks set to be a busy one for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta and new Sporting Director Andrea Berta will be looking for the right attacking players who could help them finally get over the line in the Premier League next season.

One of the most interesting links in recent weeks has been to Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo, who has been a key component of a team who have won it all in recent years – even if 24/25 was a bit of a disappointment.

There is no doubt that the Brazilian is just the sort of signing that would get fans on their fee, but if recent reports are to be believed, the club may be closing in on another signing, someone who’d be even more exciting than the winger.

Arsenal lodge new striker bid

Before we get to the star in question, it’s worth going over some of the other incredibly exciting players who have been touted for moves to Arsenal in recent weeks and months, such as Rayan Cherki and Benjamin Sesko.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The former could be available for around £30m in the coming weeks, and that might end up being one of the bargains of the window, as in just 44 appearances for Lyon this season, the young Frenchman has scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists.

Sesko, on the other hand, might cost as much as £75m, but as he’s still just 21 years old and managed to rack up a tally of 21 goals and six assists in 45 games for RB Leipzig this season, he may well be an investment worth making.

RB Leipzig's BenjaminSeskoheads at goal

Yet, if Arteta and Co really want to get the fans excited ahead of next season, they need to sign someone who can come in ready to score bags and bags of goals, someone like Viktor Gyokeres.

So, supporters should be delighted that, according to a recent report from Italy, Arsenal are in active talks with the Swede’s representatives, and they have already offered him a contract until 2030.

Furthermore, the report has claimed that Sporting CP is asking for a fee of around €65m, which is about £54m, to give the “green light to the sale” and allow the Gunners to complete a signing that would be even more exciting than the potential signing of Rodrygo.

Why Gyokeres would be a more exciting signing than Rodrygo

So, the first thing to say is that both players would be simply brilliant additions to this Arsenal squad, but there is one fundamental reason from which all others stem as to why Gyokeres would be more exciting than Rodrygo: his output.

Even with everything that went wrong this season, the Gunners were still able to produce the best defence in the Premier League, so to bridge the gap and overtake Liverpool, they need someone who can come right into the first team and start scoring goals for fun, which is just what the Swedish “powerhouse,” as dubbed by analyst Ben Mattinson, could do.

For example, since he joined Sporting CP ahead of last season, the former Coventry City star has scored a simply astounding 97 goals and provided 28 assists in just 102 appearances, totalling 8417 minutes.

That means the goalscoring “monster,” as dubbed by Mattinson, has averaged 1.22 goal involvements per game, or one every 67.33 minutes for two seasons now.

In contrast, the Real star has scored 31 goals and provided 19 assists in 102 appearances, totalling 7067 minutes, since the start of last season.

Ultimately, in an ideal world, Arsenal should sign both players, but as an out-and-out goalscorer is what they need more than anything else at the moment, it has to be said that Gyokeres would be just about the most exciting addition Berta and Co could make to the team this summer.

Farke must axe Leeds star was really "exciting to watch" under Bielsa

After securing promotion from the Championship at the end of the season, Leeds United will need to make shrewd additions if they are to build on their success.

Daniel Farke has led the side back to the Premier League, but the hard work starts now for the German, given the nature of the task he’s faced with in 2025/26.

The last six teams promoted to England’s top-flight have all suffered an immediate relegation back to the second tier, with the Whites looking to avoid suffering the same fate.

Leeds United manager DanielFarkecelebrates after the match

However, despite registering a total of 100 points in this campaign, investment is needed from the hierarchy if they are to be competitive and maintain their Premier League status.

The manager will also need to move some players on from Elland Road, with multiple already touted with transfers away from Yorkshire over the coming months.

The latest on players who could leave Leeds this summer

Left-back Junior Firpo is one player who looks set to leave Leeds this summer, with his contract now just having over a month left until he becomes a free agent.

He’s since been touted with a whole host of moves away from Yorkshire, with Spanish outfit Real Betis strongly linked with a move to resign the 28-year-old ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Striker Mateo Joseph had huge expectations going into this season, but it’s safe to say that the Spaniard has struggled massively, scoring just three goals in his 39 league outings.

Like Firpo, he too has been touted with a summer switch back to LaLiga, with Betis also keen on a deal to sign the Spanish U21 international in the coming months.

However, despite the interest in the aforementioned pair, one other player needs to be sold from the club during the off-season, handing Farke the funds to make changes to his squad.

The player who Farke needs to sell this summer

After a two-year absence from the top-flight, Leeds will return to such a division ahead of 2025/26, looking to match the performance levels they set for themselves in 2020/21.

Under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites secured a ninth-placed finish, taking the division by storm with his infamous ‘Bielsa Ball’ system which required high-intensity running.

Only numerous players from that squad currently remain at Elland Road, with striker Patrick Bamford one of those stars – scoring 17 times and earning an England call-up as a result.

Winger Jack Harrison is another talent who was part of such a squad, but he’s massively disappointed in recent years, being sent on loan to Everton for the last couple of seasons.

During his time at Elland Road, he caught the eye with his pace and eye for a goal, leading to former Whites star David Norris labelling him “exciting to watch”.

Former Leeds winger Jack Harrison.

He’s notched a combined total of 207 appearances for the club over various spells, registering 34 goals in such time – but he shouldn’t be given the chance to add to such tallies in 2025/26.

After relegation back in 2022/23, he would leave and join the Toffees on two separate loan stints, but it was announced earlier this week that they would not be making his deal permanent this summer.

As a result, he will return to Yorkshire, but Farke should sell him and raise funds for new additions, allowing him to try and resurrect his career elsewhere in the coming months.

His figures at Goodison Park compared to his latest season in Yorkshire highlight his demise over the last few years, desperately needing to cut ties and allow him to move onto pastures new.

The 28-year-old still has three years left on his current deal at Elland Road, but it remains unclear how much they will demand to sell him during the off-season.

However, given such a dip in performance, it’s clear that he’s not at the level required if the side are to survive the drop next campaign, allowing the manager to make his own stamp on the squad.

He'd revive Odegaard: Arsenal begin talks to sign "spectacular" £85m winger

In a season full of disappointments for Arsenal, perhaps the most underwhelming player in the squad has been Martin Odegaard.

It was around this time last year that the Norwegian maestro was awarded his second Player of the Year award in as many years, but this season, we don’t think he’s even cracked the top ten.

So far, the captain has amassed a lacklustre haul of just five goals and 11 assists in 43 first-team appearances, a significant step-down from the 11 goals and 12 assists he racked up in 48 games last year.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom, as recent reports suggest the club may now be looking to sign an international superstar who could get Odegaard back to his very best.

Arsenal transfer news

The good news is that, in recent weeks, Arsenal have been linked to a host of talented attackers who could help move the team forward next season, such as Viktor Gyokeres and Morgan Rogers.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The former could be available for as little as £63m, and while that is a lot of money, it would still be a bargain for a striker who has scored 52 goals and provided 13 assists in 50 appearances this season.

Likewise, while the supposed £100m price tag for Rogers is certainly eye-watering, there is no denying that, with 14 goals and 14 assists to his name in 52 games this year, Aston Villa are justified in asking for that much.

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

However, there is now another game-changing international linked with the Gunners who could help revive Odegaard: Rodrygo.

Yes, according to reports from Spain, Arsenal have now entered the race for the Real Madrid star’s signature this summer.

Interestingly, while the report claims no official negotiations have begun, it does reveal that the Gunners have already made contact and held ‘preliminary’ talks to understand the player’s situation.

The good news is that the winger supposedly wants to experience a new challenge, but the bad news is that he may cost up to €100m, which is about £85m.

It would be a complicated and costly deal to get over the line, but given Rodrygo’s immense ability, it’s one worth fighting for, especially as he could help revive Odegaard.

How Rodrygo would revive Odegaard

So then, to get straight to the point, just how would Rodrygo help Odegaard get back to his best?

Well, while there are a few reasons, they all ultimately stem back to one thing: his output.

For example, in just 52 appearances last season, the “world-class superstar,” as dubbed by Luka Modrić, managed to score 18 goals and provide nine assists in just 52 appearances, totalling 3777 minutes, which came out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.92 games, or every 139.88 minutes.

Then, even though this season has been a rough one for Los Blancos, the £202k-per-week dynamo has managed to remain an effective outlet.

For example, in 50 appearances, totalling 3290 minutes, the “spectacular” international, as dubbed by manager Carlo Ancelotti, has scored 13 goals and provided ten assists, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 2.17 games, or every 143.04 minutes.

In contrast, Arteta’s current options on the left wing have been far less effective, with Leandro Trossard producing 19 goal involvements in 54 games, totalling 3340 minutes, and Gabriel Martinelli managing 16 goal involvements in 49 appearances, totalling 3403 minutes.

In other words, the former is averaging a goal involvement every 2.84 games, or every 175.78 minutes, while the Brazilian is averaging one every 3.06 games, or every 212.68 minutes.

Now, just imagine how many more assists or even goals Odegaard would be able to rack up with a far more effective winger on the left instead of having to rely on Bukayo Saka for most of the scoring and creating in the final third.

Moreover, on top of finishing his chances more often, the Real star would force opposition defenders to focus more of their energy on locking down the left flank as well, in turn opening up more space for the Norwegian to operate in.

Ultimately, from his output to the effect his presence would have on opposition teams, it’s clear that Rodrygo could help Odegaard get back to something like his best next season, and therefore, Arsenal should do all they can to sign him up this summer.

Everton position themselves to buy cheap 10-cap star after scouting mission

Everton are set for a summer of change as they move to Bramley-Moore Dock and now have a talented defender lined up who could arrive for an inexpensive fee, according to a report.

Everton set for an overhaul this summer

David Moyes has managed to take Everton to the relative comfort of bottom-half obscurity in the Premier League and has earned due adulation for the way he has carried himself despite members of his playing squad facing uncertain futures.

Several of his key stars, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Seamus Coleman and Abdoulaye Doucoure, have yet to agree contract extensions, while Jack Harrison, Armando Broja and Orel Mangala are loanees that could be set for the exit door.

Everton manager David Moyes andBetoafter the match

Of course, there is plenty of talent embedded within his group at Finch Farm, but Moyes will be expected to carry out an overhaul as the Friedkin Group begin to make their mark on the blue half of Merseyside.

Making an early start on identifying targets, Everton are doing everything they can to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town as his £30 million relegation release clause continues to attract the attention of top-flight clubs.

Honing in on adding creativity to his midfield, Moyes is also pursuing Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer in a deal that could be worth £15 million.

Premier League club set for talks to sign "underrated" £60m Tottenham player

The Toffees are set for an emotional few weeks as they bid farewell to Goodison Park. That said, the future could shine brightly over their new stadium should transfer funds be used wisely by those in charge.

Finding value for money will be key, and Everton are now reportedly well in the hunt to seal a bargain signing after carrying out a detailed scouting mission.

Everton look to sign Torino defender Jackson Tchatchoua

According to Tuttosport (via Cuore Toro), Everton have scouted Hellas Verona right-back Jackson Tchatchoua and are now looking to bring the 10-cap Cameroon international to English shores in the summer window.

Valued at around €8m (£6.7m), the 23-year-old has registered two goals and two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season.

Marseille are also in the hunt for his signature and have sent representatives to watch him in action, while Torino are also watching on with interest to see how the situation develops.

Ashley Young and Everton club captain Coleman are two vastly experienced operators in the full-back areas. Nevertheless, it appears that Tchatchoua may be a younger alternative to take over their role in the years to come.

Nathan Patterson hasn’t been a frequent starter this term, so it makes sense that an alternative has been identified to provide strength in depth as the Toffees prepare for life at their new stadium.

Their next Tarkowski: Everton make contact to sign £120k-per-week defender

Everton are set to spend this summer. Recent reports have outlined The Friedkin Group’s plans to work with David Moyes and strengthen the flanks, both from defensive and more forward-focused vantages.

With an overload of first-teamers out of contract this summer, there’s certainly a lot for incoming Director of Football Angus Kinnear to sort out, but it’s exciting to note that there’s been a shift in mentality in the short time since Moyes returned to the dugout.

All of a Toffees persuasion want flashy new forwards to enter the fold, but a sprinkling of pragmatism must be woven into the strategy to create a balanced team of high quality.

Everton are lining up one such player in a shrewd move.

Everton make first move to sign Premier League ace

According to Caught Offside, Everton have made their first move in an effort to sign Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The report claims that they are one of a number of clubs to have made contact with the player about a possible move to Merseyside this summer.

Everton will hope that their new project and the geographical closeness to Old Trafford may hold sway in negotiations, but with Everton, Fulham, West Ham United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers also keen, time is of the essence.

The Merseysiders have received a boost in their bid for the 30-year-old after he made known his desire to remain in England, despite interest from Juventus, Inter Milan, and former club Benfica.

What Victor Lindelof would bring to Everton

When Moyes returned to Goodison Park in January after 12 years away, Sean Dyche was resigned to his fate, in both senses of the word.

The former Burnley manager felt he had taken Everton as far as he could, and his vision did not align with TFG’s vision. However, Moyes will no doubt thank his predecessor for having left such firm defensive foundations – foundations from which incomings such as Lindelof could use to turn out as bona fide successes.

Lindelof has been a feature in the Premier League for some time, signing for United back in 2017 in an initial £31m move, departing from Benfica.

He’s ebbed and he’s flowed, truth be told, making 277 appearances and winning the Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. However, the Sweden international has been locked in a sort of purgatory in recent years, peripheral in the Premier League.

There’s a solid, ball-efficient player in there, though, and Moyes may well be the perfect man to unlock the chained hasp. Given Lindelof’s looming free agency, his vast experience in English football, the veteran may well prove to be Moyes’ own version of James Tarkowski.

Tarkowski, Everton’s acting captain with Seamus Coleman on the margins, joined from relegated Burnley in 2022 at the end of his contract, proving to be a smart piece of business indeed.

Though he was 29 at the time, Tarkowski brought a wealth of practice in the Premier League to Merseyside, and he has started every single league match since his arrival (albeit that will soon change after he was forced off against Manchester City last weekend with a hamstring injury).

Now 32, the English centre-half has been a wonderful mentor for Jarrad Branthwaite, perfectly upholding Dyche and now Moyes’ fundamental defensive values.

Lindelof could add another string to Everton’s defensive bow, ranking among the top 14% of defenders across Europe for pass completion, as per FBref, and once being labelled Man United’s “best player” by former boss Jose Mourinho.

All told, if Kinnear and co can perhaps reduce down Lindelof’s present £120k-per-week earnings, this might just prove to be an astute piece of business from an Everton side set to lose Michael Keane at the end of his deal.

Bramley Moore beckons, signalling more than just a change of scenery. It’s a new era for Moyes’ Everton, but the manager might just hit gold by repeating a trick and signing a player in a similar vein to Tarkowski before turning toward those flashier forward players to really get the new ground rocking.

"Special" Man City star now willing to take pay cut to complete shock move

After putting on five-star display against Crystal Palace, the good news could be short-lived for Manchester City amid reports that one midfield star is willing to take a pay cut to get his move this summer.

Man City put five past Crystal Palace

When Eberechi Eze and Chris Richards struck to hand Crystal Palace a shock 2-0 lead at the Etihad, it looked set to be an all too familiar story for Pep Guardiola’s side. That is, until Kevin De Bruyne took a hold on proceedings.

The Belgian, into his last six games of his Manchester City career, scored a stunning free-kick before playing his part in Omar Marmoush’s swift equaliser midway through the first period.

Putting on a show, Manchester City then hit three goals without a response to seal all three points against an in-form Crystal Palace side. Speaking after an excellent display, De Bruyne told TNT Sports: “I thought the first 20 minutes, it was actually alright. We had a couple of chances but they pounced on two chances, one a corner and then obviously the Eze chance.

“I was wondering, ‘What’s going on here?’, but I think the reaction was really good. Obviously, scoring very quickly the first and the second changed the feeling of the game. I think overall we played really well.”

The Citizens could land a bargain deal…

ByTom Cunningham Apr 11, 2025

It may well prove to be an all-important victory for the Citizens as they battle to secure Champions League qualification, with De Bruyne hoping to ensure of a fitting farewell in the process. That said, the Belgian may not be the only one saying his goodbyes in the coming weeks if recent reports are anything to go by.

Benfica eyeing Bernardo Silva move

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, as relayed by Sport Witness, Benfica are now plotting a move to sign Bernardo Silva, who is reportedly willing to take a pay cut in order to secure an exit away from Manchester City.

In doing so, the midfielder would be going full circle back to his boyhood club. Now 30 years old and a player who’s been past his excellent best at times this season, Silva would be completing a fitting move.

If that is to be that for the Portugal international in Manchester, there’s no doubt that he’ll be bowing out as a modern-day legend at the home of the Premier League champions. Guardiola’s praise has often reflected that legend status, too.

The Spaniard told reporters in December: “We are lucky with the players we have, for example, like Bernardo. I know he’s a special player for me, but how he puts his heart into those positions.

“He is an incredible winner and example for us in how he behaves in different positions and always tries to help and read what happens in certain positions. Playing attacking midfield, holding midfield, always defensively he makes an incredible effort.”

Fulham now planning to hand massive new contract to "great" £50m player

Fulham are reportedly expected to hand one of their most influential players a new contract, according to a promising new update regarding his future.

Fulham still eyeing European finish

The Cottagers face a massive game this weekend, taking on Chelsea in a match that not only represents a west London derby, but is also a key fixture in the race for European football in the Premier League.

Monday’s 1-0 defeat away to Bournemouth leaves Marco Silva’s Fulham side sitting ninth in the table, meaning they are now trailing sixth-place Chelsea by six points.

Realistically, only a win will do for the Cottagers at home to the Blues this weekend, but even if they do fall short in the quest to be in Europe next season, it has still been a positive campaign overall.

The key is for Fulham to build on this season, and the right players will need to be signed this summer, in order for them to find another gear, such as Werder Bremen full-back Felix Agu who has been linked in recent days. Now, a key update has emerged regarding a player who it is vital to keep hold of.

Fulham plot new contract for Rodrigo Muniz

According to The Boot Room‘s Graeme Bailey, Fulham are “ready to hand” striker Rodrigo Muniz a “bumper” new deal at the club, in order to tie him down, amid interest from Nottingham Forest and West Ham.

“They think they’ve got a real gem there, there’s also a real chance Brazil’s number nine at the World Cup might end up being Muniz. He thinks he’s got a great chance. A bumper new deal, because there are other teams sniffing around him, West Ham and Forest. His goal-scoring record has been great. He’s in line for a big new deal at Fulham. They’re very happy with and want him to commit.”

Sealing a contract extension for Muniz is vital, with the £50m-rated star a vital figure throughout the campaign, scoring eight goals in as many Premier League starts, also coming off the substitutes’ bench 23 times in the competition.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has heaped praise on the Brazilian, with the former England captain knowing a thing or two about what makes a top striker.

“He really was a handful. Tough to play against, horrible to play against in fact. That’s always a good thing for a centre-forward, that’s what you have to be. “He was strong, he ran the channels, he brought players into the game and he really upset the Bournemouth defenders in every way, in everything he was doing.”

He could be a bargain.

ByEmilio Galantini Apr 17, 2025

The fact that Bailey mentions Muniz starting for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup says so much about his ability, showing why Fulham will do all they can to retain his services. To lose him now would be a major blow, especially as he is still only 23 years of age.
