Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-Min has confirmed that he did not celebrate his goals against Red Star Belgrade out of respect for Everton’s Andre Gomes, per BT Sport via The Evening Standard.

What’s the word?

The South Korea international was at the centre of his Portugal counterpart’s grisly injury during the clash between the two clubs at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Son fouled Gomes on the left wing and, as the latter fell, he subsequently sustained a fracture-dislocation of his ankle, leaving the Spurs star in tears prior to his sending off.

The red card has since been rescinded – meaning he will be available for Spurs’ upcoming Premier League games – and he scored twice as Mauricio Pochettino’s men thumped Red Star Belgrade 4-0 on Wednesday evening.

However, instead of celebrating, Son merely gestured apologetically towards the camera, and he has explained that he still feels sorry about the incident, having been in contact with Gomes since the issue.

He said: “Of course it has been a really tough few days but I have realised how lucky I am with all the support I have had from the fans and my team-mates.

“I can say I’m really sorry for the accident and the situation but I had to focus for the team and I had to keep going and it was the right response to all the people who have supported me. I didn’t want to celebrate because I just want to respect the situation.

“Of course, I still feel really sorry about this situation. It’s been a few tough days. I wish Andre Gomes gets well soon and best wishes.”

A measure of the man

This is just genuinely heart-warming stuff from Son.

Not only is he blossoming into a genuinely world-class forward for Spurs – he has scored seven goals in 14 outings this season – he appears to be a respectful and humble guy to boot.

His gestures on Wednesday were remarkably classy and prove that Gomes was at the forefront of Son’s mind.

That he managed to perform as he did on the night, even after the horrible events at Goodison Park, is a further testament to just how good Son is on the pitch.

Off the pitch, he appears to be a diamond too.

تروي ديني في تصريحات لإذاعة “TalkSport” البريطانية، قال: “سأقول شيئًا ما وربما سأتعرض لهجوم شديد من البعض، لكن رباعي هجوم ليفربول، ليسوا هدافين بالفطرة”.

وأضاف: “لقد كنت أسجل أهدافًا، أرى أن فيرمينو ممتاز لكنه ليس الشخص الذي أجلس وأنتظر أن يسجل 25 أو 28 هدفًا في الموسم”.

وأكمل: “محمد صلاح جناح، أنظر إلى مباراة نيوكاسل، أنظر إلى عدد الفرص التي أضاعها وسجل هدفا واحدا فقط، إذا كان هاري كين مكانه، لكنا قلنا أنه هداف الدوري من هذه المباراة فقط”.

وأشار: “إنهم ليسوا لاعبين سيئين، لكنهم ليسوا هدافين بالفطرة، لا يمكنهم تسجيل عدد أهداف كبير في الموسم، هم أجنحة أكثر من كونهم مهاجمين”.

وشدد: “محمد صلاح يحصل على الكثير من الفرص، في مباراة واحدة قد يسجل، قد يكون لديه أربع أو خمس أهداف، ويكمل 5 مباريات دون أن يسجل، لأن هذه ليست مهمته الأساسية”.

واختتم بالحديث عن مباراة نيوكاسل: “كان من الممكن أن يكون ليفربول منتصرًا 6/0 في الشوط الأول، لكن في النهاية المباراة انتهت 1/1”.

أكد أشرف حكيمي، لاعب إنتر ميلان الإيطالي، أنه رغب البقاء في صفوف ريال مدريد، لكن النادي لم يتح له الفرصة لذلك.

حكيمي توج بالدوري الإيطالي مع إنتر ميلان هذا الموسم تحت قيادة أنطونيو كونتي، وفاز النادي باللقب بعد غياب 11 عامًا، منهيًا ملحمة يوفنتوس الذي سيطر على السكوديتو لتسع مواسم متتالية.

وأكد حكيمي: “أزعجني كثيرًا أن البعض اعتقد أنني خفت من القتال على مركز أساسي في ريال مدريد، لقد كنت مستعدًا تمامًا للقتال، كنت أشعر أنني مؤهلًا لذلك”.

وأكمل حكيمي: “لا أعرف ما إذا كان زيدان هو السبب أو النادي نفسه، ومع الوباء (تأثير تفشي كورونا على اقتصاد الأندية) كان علي الرحيل”.

وعن مستقبله أتم حكيمي: “أنت لا تعرف أبدًا ما سيحدث”.

Everton fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight with Mason Holgate, with many suggesting he was the Man of the Match against Southampton.

Officially, Tom Davies was the club’s Man of the Match, but as Holgate once again showed his worth, some sections of the Everton faithful believe he was the true hero on Saturday.

The defender once again registered an assist for the club, which now brings him onto two assists and one goal in his last four appearances.

In this time, the 23-year-old has also kept a clean sheet against Watford and looked much more solid at the back than Michael Keane has.

At St. Mary’s last weekend, Holgate had an array of impressive statistics to boast. He managed to make three tackles, played 11 accurate long balls, and completed four clearances.

After putting together this fantastic display, fans rightfully so believe he was the Man of the Match.

One supporter said he is “getting better with every game”, whilst another fan touched on the brilliance of his distribution out from the back.

After enjoying an impressive beginning to the campaign that saw them start the match-day weekend in the top-half of the Premier League table, Crystal Palace fell to a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

As many would have expected, Roy Hodgson’s side were set up to try and soak up the pressure before hitting the Blues on the counter-attack. Unfortunately for the Eagles, whilst they held out for the first-half, they couldn’t stop the west London side from breaching their defence just after the break.

A fine flick from Willian set Tammy Abraham free inside the box, and the centre-forward buried the opportunity to give Chelsea the lead. The goal seemed to give Frank Lampard’s men the confidence in their search for a second, and former Borussia Dortmund man Christian Pulisic duly obliged with just over ten minutes remaining. In a game where they mustered just one shot on target in the entire game, Hodgson desperately needed someone like Christian Benteke to bring a focal point to their attack.

Off the bench

At 6 foot 3, the 28-year-old has always been an intimidating presence up front. He has an incredible career average of winning 6.9 aerial duels per game, and against Chelsea, his side could really have done with that. Palace averaged just 40% possession at Stamford Bridge, and whilst Jordan Ayew battled admirably at the top of the pitch – he earned two free-kicks and won eight duels – he was starved of service.

Bringing someone like Benteke on to partner him, or even replace him, would have brought the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend into the game. Whenever Chelsea pressed, the Palace defence could simply go back-to-front instead of trying to play through the lines, and that would have helped get them a much-needed foot-hold in the contest. Instead, Hodgson chose to bring on Jeffrey Schlupp and James McCarthy despite the side needing goals. It was a major in-game insight that the experienced boss completely missed.

Footage has emerged from the pre-game build up in the tunnel, and it has left some Wednesday supporters delighted as Palmer appears to help a young Cypriot with his boots.

One member of the Hillsborough faithful said that a simple act of kindness like that showed a lot about the man while another hailed the 28-year-old as a ‘legend.’

A further fan went as far as saying he was the best full-back in the world with one more labelling the gesture as ‘class.’

Lee Bowyer has been speaking about how big an impact Charlton Athletic’s injury crisis is having on his squad selection, as reported by London News Online.

What did he say?

The Addicks manager has indicated that he may not even be able to fill his bench when facing Cardiff City, due to the number of players who will be out.

One area of the pitch that has been especially stretched by this is central midfield, as Bowyer has disclosed that there are only three centre-midfielders available.

Speaking ahead of the Cardiff game, Bowyer was quoted by London News Online as saying: “We’ve only got a 23 or 22-man squad and we’ve got 10 out, that is nearly half. If it carries on then we won’t be able to put out a starting 11.

“The only position we are strong is at the back. There are not many to choose from in midfield – three. The ones available are Conor Gallagher, Josh Cullen and Erhun Oztumer.

“I think we’ll maybe have to look at playing a different way. We’ll go through a couple of things this morning – some shape work – to see what looks good for the players we have. It’s tricky, definitely tricky.”

A chance to prove himself

Oztumer has been in and out of the Charlton team after joining from Bolton Wanderers, having made four starts and one substitute appearance in red so far.

It is quite telling about the 28-year-old’s role in the team that he is still yet to start consecutive games for the Addicks.

While he doesn’t have a chance to change that against Cardiff, having been benched for the entirety of the loss against Millwall, he does have the opportunity to prove himself to Bowyer.

Bowyer has often opted to use three centre-midfielders at a time, so unless he changes this view, Oztumer looks set to start this weekend given the lack of alternative options.

He has shown glimpses of being a useful creative presence already this campaign, averaging 1.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game, while maintaining a pass success rate of 83.2%.

Now is his chance to step up and show Bowyer that he deserves to be in the team on a more regular basis.
