West Bromwich Albion’s disastrous start to life in the Premier League continued as they were well-beaten by Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It’s just one point from their opening four matches, meaning Slaven Bilic’s side are toying with the prospect of being early favourites for relegation and an instant return to the Championship.

Going by reports in the press, the Croatian feels that he needs a new striker in the form of Karlan Grant, who they have been pursuing for several months now but he’s hardly going to be the answer to all of the Baggies’ woes.

The Midlands outfit have leaked a whopping 13 goals already – that’s currently the most in the Premier League. Their backline does not look fit for a top-flight campaign whatsoever.

And one name displayed that during the Saints defeat.

Kyle Bartley was particularly poor with Bilic keeping the faith in the 29-year-old despite swapping a back three for Albion’s old 4-2-3-1 system.

Per SofaScore, the Englishman managed to lose 84% of his six duels whilst also losing possession 12 times, committing two fouls and recording a wasteful passing accuracy of 63%.

It’s no wonder the Saints peppered Sam Johnstone with 13 shots, eight of which coming from inside the box, which suggests Bartley wasn’t doing his job.

Grant may well come in and score goals but having the likes of Bartley and Semi Ajayi as your centre-backs all season could prove very costly.

When you’re letting in an average of over three goals per game, questions have to be asked defensively – splashing around £18m on Grant is risky business as it leaves the Baggies’ bank empty for any further reinforcements at the back.

That could well be the deciding factor come to the end of the season for Albion.

Glasgow Rangers have suffered another injury blow ahead of the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park. The Daily Record has revealed that Gers goalkeeper Allan McGregor is a doubt for this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash.

It’s also claimed that Steven Gerrard could be without four other players for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off between Rangers and Celtic, as he’s already got doubts over Joe Aribo, Filip Helander and Kemar Roofe, whilst Alfredo Morelos isn’t expected to be back at Ibrox until later this week after featuring for Colombia.

The Gers sit top of the Scottish Premiership table, a point ahead of Neil Lennon’s side, with so much at stake heading into the first Old Firm clash of the season. Nikola Katic will not feature as he battles back from a long-term injury problem.

But it is McGregor whose absence will be most keenly felt if he is indeed forced to miss the game against Celtic. Gerrard’s side have the chance to go four points clear of Celtic if the result goes their way at Parkhead. Although they may have to do so without the former 42-cap Scotland international, which will be no easy task.

It’s safe to say that losing his first-choice keeper would be a big blow for Gerrard as Jon McLaughlin would have to take his place between the sticks. Whilst McLaughlin is no doubt a fine understudy, he does not have anywhere near the same level of experience as McGregor, who has been named in the Europa League squad this season, despite his advancing years.

Gerrard could be forced to start McLaughlin, which may be a gamble seeing as he has conceded six goals in three games against Celtic so far from his time with Hearts, via Transfermarkt.

Whilst the Rangers boss does have the luxury of other options, he would obviously rather start McGregor, who has made 30 appearances against their arch-rivals, keeping nine clean sheets so far, via Transfermarkt.

By comparison, McLaughlin has never actually appeared in the Old Firm derby before, which is far from ideal. To make matters worse, the 33-year-old hasn’t kept a single clean sheet against Celtic in his entire career either.

Gerrard will face an anxious wait before kick-off, that’s for sure.

E, aparentemente, não estava cansado apenas por ter acordado às 5h30m nem pelo percurso de avião desde Porto Alegre até a capital mineira. Luan está cansado pela longa sequência de jogos. Queria descanso nesse fim de Brasileiro. Queria estar com a segunda colocação do Brasileiro garantida e com a vaga direta na fase de grupos da Libertadores do ano que vem assegurada. Mas, segundo o próprio, o time “deixou para a última rodada” essas definições. Luan queria uma história diferente para esse fim de campeonato. Até com título brasileiro, quem sabe? Por isso, durante a coletiva, o jogador deu uma leve cutucada no trabalho de Levir Culpi, afirmando que o time só aprendeu a jogar fora de casa nos dois dias de trabalho do interino, Diogo Giacomini, à frente do time. Luan acredita que, se as lições tivessem sido passadas antes, o fim de ano do Galo poderia ser bem melhor:

-Foi interessante. O Diogo (Giacomini), em dois dias de treinamento, fez a gente entender um pouco como a gente tinha que jogar fora de casa. Se a gente tivesse feito isso em alguns jogos do campeonato, acredito que a história teria sido diferente. Jogar compactado, jogar cada jogador se doando o máximo, como foi, dentro da sua posição… Talvez a gente tivesse sido mais feliz. Talvez, pelo menos, tivesse adiado um pouco esse título do Corinthians – declarou o atleta.

Como não é possível voltar no tempo, Luan, agora, pensa no futuro. No jogo contra a Chapecoense, no próximo domingo (6); em matar a saudade da filha quando o campeonato acabar; e também no técnico do Atlético para a próxima temporada. Mas nada de nenhum dos nomes especulados até agora.

-Guardiola. Com ele, a gente joga. A minha preferência é o Guardiola. Se puder… Tem como? – brincou o Luan.

وصرح محمد صلاح مساء أمس بأنه يود البقاء في ليفربول حتى نهاية مسيرته المهنية، ولكنه أكد على أن ذلك الأمر لا يتوقف عليه فقط.

وقالت صحيفة “ديلي ستار” الإنجليزية في تقرير بها: “إذا كان محمد صلاح يحاول أن يُظهر لليفربول أنه يستحق عقدًا جديدًا باهظًا، فهو يقوم بعمل جيد، هو أفضل لاعب كرة قدم على هذا الكوكب في الوقت الحالي ويجب أن يشعر ليفربول بأنهم محظوظين لوجوده”.

وأضافت: “بعض الأهداف التي سجلها هذا الموسم كانت مثيرة، وتذكرنا بالعظيم دييجو مارادونا في ذروة شهرته، إنه مدح كبير، لأن الكثير من عشاق كرة القدم يعتبرون مارادونا أعظم لاعب كرة قدم في كل العصور، ومن الصعب الجدال معهم”.

وواصلت: “محمد صلاح لاعب استثنائي يستحق عقدًا استثنائيًا، وهو ما يطرح سؤالًا، لماذا يستغرق مُلاك ليفربول الأمريكيون كل هذا الوقت لتأمين مستقبل الملك المصري على المدى الطويل؟”.

وأردفت: “كانت هناك اقتراحات بأن صلاح يطلب ما بين 400 ألف جنيه إسترليني و500 ألف جنيه إسترليني في الأسبوع، سيؤدي هذا إلى تحطيم هيكل الأجور الصارم للنادي وسيحصل مو على ضعف ما يتقاضاه فيرجيل فان دايك”.

وأوضحت: “أمام ليفربول ثلاثة خيارات، منح صلاح ما يريده وتجديد عقده، أو بيعه في الصيف المقبل لمن يدفع أعلى سعر، أو السماح له بالبقاء في النادي حتى نهاية عقده الحالي، وتحقيق أقصى استفادة منه في الوقت المتبقي ورؤيته يغادر الأنفيلد مقابل لا شيء في عام 2023”.

وأكدت: “هناك قرار واحد معقول يجب اتخاذه، ولكنه سيمثل ضربة قوية لمُلاك ليفربول فيما يتعلق بسياساتهم المالية، خاصة أنه عندما يتعلق الأمر بالاحتفاظ بخدمات النجوم البارزين، فإن التاريخ ليس لطيفًا مع ليفربول”.

أكد معين الشعباني، المدير الفني لفريق المصري البورسعيدي، أن فريقه غير جاهز فنيًا ولم يحصل سوى على أسبوعين فقط للتحضير لمنافسات الدوري الممتاز.

وتعادل المصري مع غزل المحلة بهدف لمثله، في إطار منافسات الجولة الأولى من مسابقة الدوري المصري، التي جمعت بينهما مساء اليوم الخميس.

وقال الشعباني عبر قناة “أون تايم سبورتس”: “أعلم أن المصري غير جاهز بدنيًا، أسبوعين تحضير فقط وبعد ذلك نلعب الدوري، عندما تكون غير جاهز بدنيًا تلعب السهل وتطبق التعليمات، وفي الشوط الأول كنت غير راضي عن الأداء”.

تابع: “غزل المحلة ربح الكرة أكثر مننا وكانوا أسرع، مشكلتنا ليست بدنية ولكن ذهنية، ويجب أن نعالجها في أسرع وقت”.

وواصل: “الشوط الثاني كنا أفضل من المنافس وخلقنا الفرص، الشيء الوحيد الذي قلقني اليوم أننا فعلنا أخطاء بدائية في الدفاع، وفي الهجوم لدينا نفس المشكلة، نهدر الفرص أمام المرمى وحدث ذلك في مباراة الكونفدرالية، يجب التركيز أكثر من ذلك”.

It’s not often that a team comes away with a win from Celtic Park, let alone leaving without facing a single shot on target. But Glasgow Rangers crushed Celtic in a comfortable 2-0 win at Parkhead in the first Old Firm derby of the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership season.

Steven Gerrard’s side won at Celtic Park for the second time in a row, a feat they hadn’t achieved since 1995. Connor Goldson bagged a brace to secure the vital three points, whilst he also contributed to another clean sheet as the Bhoys barely offered anything in attack.

Now Ross Wilson must convince the centre-back to sign a new contract as he has entered the final two years of his current deal, which is set to expire in the summer of 2022.

According to Football Insider, the Gers are prepared to give Goldson a bumper new deal to warn away any potential suitors. The 27-year-old was a wanted man in the summer transfer window as he attracted attention from a number of Premier League clubs including Everton, Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United. Although the Gers are now four points clear of their arch-rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Gerrard will want to leave no stone unturned if they are to regain the title for the first time since the 2010/11 season.

The Englishman has been in fine form this season but sources close to the situation confirmed it was always a part of the Ibrox outfit’s plan to give him a new deal regardless of his outstanding start to the season.

It’s perhaps hardly surprising that several English sides have already come calling given his performances over the course of his career so far. Gerrard has heaped praise on his countryman for his consistency in the past.

Former Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon once said he had no hesitation whatsoever in giving him the captain’s armband, saying “we felt we could get a wee bit more out of him with that extra responsibility”, whilst the defender was recently described as an “outstanding” player by James Tavernier after his heroics against Celtic.

Goldson has made 11 appearances in the Scottish top flight, scoring two goals, averaging 2.8 clearances and 1.2 tackles as well as 1.2 shots per game, via WhoScored. This shows that he is a solid option at the back who is also a useful asset in attack.

If the Gers are to regain their title, we’re certain that the £3.6m-rated ace will find himself on the scoresheet once more. Get him tied down, Gers, by any means necessary.

Ele subiu, deu conta do recado, mas fraturou o pé direito no segundo jogo das quartas de final da Copa do Brasil, contra o Grêmio, que o tirou do restante da temporada:

– Na hora em que fui correr, meu pé estalou. Isso aconteceu no primeiro tempo, com uns 35 minutos. Orei a Deus para que o jogo fosse logo para o intervalo. Pensei “se for o dedinho que destroncou, vou enrolar alguma coisa e vou na raça”. Acabou que joguei com o pé quebrado e só descobri a gravidade depois. Aquilo me abateu um pouquinho porque me esforcei bastante para chegar ali e estava recebendo oportunidade. Mas no dia seguinte já sabia que era coisa do futebol e que eu teria que superar. Graças a Deus, superei.
