Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has been heavily linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford this summer.

What’s the story?

According to the Manchester Evening News, fellow Premier League side Newcastle United are in pole position to sign the 23-year-old over the coming months, although Aston Villa are also interested in securing his signature.

The report states that Tuanzebe feels he deserved more opportunities to impress last season and received a lack of recognition for his performances, meaning a temporary move away from his boyhood appears to be something he is keen on.

He’s not good enough

Tuanzebe found regular game time hard to come by in 2020/21, making just 19 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.

He received widespread adulation for his outstanding performance against French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stages in what was his first start for a year, but the youngster started just eight more matches throughout the campaign.

And with the imminent arrival of World Cup-winning centre-back Varane expected to push Tuanzebe even further down United’s pecking order, a loan move may be the best solution for all parties.

The former England Under-21 international’s lack of first-team minutes likely indicate that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t believe he’s good enough to be a regular for the 20-time English champions at this stage in his career.

Therefore, the Norwegian tactician must let the £7.2m-rated Tuanzebe leave this this summer, allowing him to prove his worth and showcase his quality week in week out.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce signed the pacey defender in back-to-back seasons while at the helm of Villa during their time in the Championship, meaning a move to either St. James’ Park or Villa Park would offer a comfortable setting with some familiarities.

Whether Tuanzebe can ever force his way into United starting XI on a regular basis remains to be seen, but a temporary transfer away from the Old Trafford spotlight is certainly a wise decision for the player’s future prospects.

He’s not been good enough to get regular game time for United, but that could change in the fututre if he can get a full season of Premier League football under his belt.

However, when a country agrees to host an ICC event, it agrees that there will be no restrictions on entry for teams, officials, media or spectators from any of the participating countries.It is possible that Zimbabwe’s status will change next week when the ICC meets to discuss their future. One of the knock-on effects of that may be that their automatic entry to the competition is revoked. It is also possible that the political situation in Zimbabwe may change should Robert Mugabe stand down or be forced from office.Time is, at the moment, on England’s side. For now, senior ICC officials have suggested that a ban on Peter Chingoka, ZC’s chairman, would not be enough to cause the tournament to be switched, but if the side was prevented from participating then the ICC would have no choice but to look for an alternative venue.The ICC is in no hurry to clarify the situation and a decision could be made as late as early March 2009, three months before the due start.It is unclear what the knock-on effects would be for the ECB and hosting grounds as tickets go on sale next week, and sponsorship and other commercial deals are already being put in place.

He was tipped to make Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2020 given his outstanding displays for the Midlands outfit. However, a serious knee injury picked up in March ruled the forward out for the rest of the campaign.

The electric England international made a winning return to first-team action over the weekend, though, featuring from the off as Leicester claimed just their second Community Shield with a victory at Wembley Stadium.

And now Barnes could be rewarded for last season’s fine form with a move to the 19-time English champions.

With Mane and Firmino beginning to fall below their usual exceptional standards and the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri heavily linked with an Anfield exit, Barnes could provide the spark to Liverpool’s forward line that it so desperately needs.

He’s made incredible progress since joined West Bromwich Albion on loan back in 2018, where he contributed to 16 goals in 26 Championship outings for the Baggies, and his underlying numbers last term are evidence of that.

As per WhoScored, Barnes recorded 2.2 shots per league game in 2020/21, made one key pass and completed 1.6 dribbles, placing him in the top five compared to his teammates for all metrics.

Therefore, Liverpool fans will surely be delighted to learn the club’s recruitment team are closely monitoring his progress. Barnes is an exciting, young, English prospect with bags of potential and he should only get better under Klopp’s tutelage.

Whether the Reds follow up their reported interest with a formal offer remains to be seen, but his arrival on Merseyside would certainly be welcomed by the supporters. The fact that he’s on Liverpool’s radar should be music to the ears of Reds’ fans.

The Owls have not have experienced the happiest time in their history recently, but Iorfa has been one of the few positives to emerge.

The 26-year-old has shone at centre-back for Wednesday, making 71 appearances to date and scoring five goals for good measure.

Iorfa was voted the club’s Player of the Year in 2019/20, highlighting how much of an influence he has had since arriving from Wolves in 2019.

The Latest: Owls keen to offer new deal

According to The Sheffield Star, Wednesday are keen on the idea of offering Irofa a new deal, with his current contract expiring next summer.
