Rangers transfer news on Berke Ozer

Glasgow Rangers have reportedly now made an offer to bring a Turkish goalkeeper to Ibrox on a free transfer this summer.

The Lowdown: Out of contract

Reports from Turkey have claimed that the Light Blues have taken the first big step towards trying to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks.

Berke Ozer is out of contract at Fenerbahce at the end of the month, meaning that he will become a free agent once it expires.

The 6 foot 3 goalkeeper played in 19 games across all competitions in 2021/22, including three appearances in the Europa League, and he kept five clean sheets in total (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Ozer transfer offer

As per Turkish outlet En Son Haber, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers have now made an offer to sign the 22-year-old, who has been confirmed to leave Fenerbahce after the end of his contract.

It was thought that he had already signed for Belgian club Anderlecht, but that is now not the case, with Portuguese giants Benfica also thought to be interested in his signature.

The Verdict: McGregor replacement?

The report claims that Ozer is ‘keen’ to join Rangers, as he could take over from Allan McGregor as the Teddy Bears’ new number one.

As per Sky Sports, the Light Blues have not opened talks over a new deal for the 40-year-old, whose contract also expires this summer.

Therefore, Ozer could be brought in as a like-for-like replacement for the Scottish veteran, and the Turk is much younger at 22, so he could establish himself as a mainstay at Ibrox for the next few years if he comes to Glasgow.

West Ham: ExWHUemployee drops Broja update

West Ham United could have found the solution to their centre-forward woes, amid reports that Chelsea youngster Armando Broja could be on his way to the London Stadium.

What’s the word?

As per club insider ExWHUemployee, the Hammers are believed to have held “discussions” regarding a potential swoop for the 20-year-old, albeit without having actually made a concrete bid to the Blues.

Asked on Twitter about the club’s interest in the Albania international, the trusted source stated: “I don’t think a formal offer has been submitted yet but there has been some discussions as there have with the other targets I mentioned but I believe Broja has always been a top choice for Moyes (something we said months ago)”.

This follows reports that suggest the east London outfit are set to make a bid of roughly £30m in an attempt to the prise the 14-cap starlet from Stamford Bridge, with fellow Premier League side Southampton also said to be keen on a deal, following the player’s impressive stint on loan at St Mary’s last term.

There have also been reports that he could remain at Cobham next term, with manager Thomas Tuchel keen to take a look at the player in pre-season.

Supporters will be buzzing

Fresh from completing a £30m deal for defender Nayef Aguerd from Stade Rennais, it would appear that David Moyes and co are keen to press on with their transfer activity, with the potential arrival of young Broja one of six further additions that the club could reportedly make this summer.

Although the reported figure for the Slough-born ace may appear somewhat substantial for a player who only has two full seasons of senior football under his belt thus far, his form to date would suggest that he could well be worth every penny.

Having risen through the youth ranks in west London, the £8.5k-per-week gem was sent out on loan to feeder club Vitesse Arnhem in the summer of 2020, eventually netting an impressive 11 goals for the Dutch outfit in total.

That form alerted the attention of the Saints who snapped the £19.8m-rated brute up on a season-long loan deal last summer, with the striker going on to score nine goals in all competitions for the club, including six in the top-flight.

That tally may not be totally eye-catching, with the player’s form having suffered something of a dip following the turn of the year, although it was his all-round game that also caught the eye, with his strength and speed proving a real handful for far more experienced defensive units.

The 6 foot 3 menace also received a glowing reference from former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard – the man who gave him his debut at his parent club – with the 44-year-old stating: “He’s fast, strong, has a real eye for goal and he’s a very, very good young player so I’m very aware of his strengths in a Southampton team playing very well”.

Moyes’ side also saw first-hand just how “devastating” he can be – in the words of his national team assistant coach Sergio Porrini – with the highly-rated prospect having scored a stunning solo goal in the Irons’ FA Cup defeat to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side in March.

Equally, supporters will also be buzzing to see increased competition for current number nine Michail Antonio, with the 32-year-old the only senior, centre-forward in the Hammers squad at present.

Having such a young and hungry talent to challenge the Jamaica international will add further depth and quality ahead of what will be another long, gruelling season for the club.

Rangers eye Tottenham midfielder Winks

Glasgow Rangers have reportedly now ‘been offered’ the chance to bring Harry Winks to Ibrox this summer.

The Lowdown: New start

Having only managed 30 appearances in total for Tottenham Hotspur over all competitions last season, coupled up with the signing of central midfielder Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion, Winks is in need of a fresh start.

He has been out of the England set-up since 2020 after making his senior debut back in 2017 (Transfermarkt), and so needs a move away if he is to have any chance of forcing himself into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Latest: Offered

Taking to Twitter, 90min editor and journalist Sean Walsh has revealed that Winks has now ‘been offered’ to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team, although a number of clubs in the Premier League are thought to be ‘interested’ in his signature:

“Several Premier League sides are interested in Harry Winks, including Everton as reported elsewhere. He’s also been offered to Rangers.”

The Verdict: Loan

Very much like the Aaron Ramsey situation last term, bringing Winks in on loan would be the best scenario for the Teddy Bears.

Of course, being at a Premier League and UEFA Champions League club means that his wages will be high, as he earns £91,000-per-week at Spurs.

This would obliterate the Light Blues’ wage structure, and so they would need to negotiate with the North London club over a suitable wage split.

Nonetheless, Winks, who has been dubbed a ‘fabulous‘ player by former Lilywhites goalkeeper Paul Robinson, is very experienced at the highest level, and so is sure to elevate the dressing room should he make the move to the Gers.

Liverpool can land Vinicius 2.0 with Gnabry

Jurgen Klopp’s recruitment strategy at Liverpool over the previous few seasons has been second to none. His diligent approach to the transfer market has seen the German build a wonderful team that has conquered both England and Europe in the past.

This summer could be one of the most important transfer windows that he oversees as Liverpool boss. Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay, and a club-record £85m move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez have boosted the squad, but there have also been plenty of departures.

Fan favourite Sadio Mane has left for Bayern Munich and Divock Origi has also departed Anfield, while Takumi Minamino is on the verge of joining AS Monaco, meaning the depth of their attack will be lessened which could pave the way for another potential signing.

One player that has been linked with the club is Bayern forward Serge Gnabry and recent comments made by sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić (via Fabrizio Romano) could give Liverpool the green light to make a move for the player who is out of contract in 2023, therefore he could be available for €40m (£34m).

Klopp could unearth his very own Vinicius Jr in a deal for Gnabry, with the two being comparable via the similar player model on FBref.

The Brazilian has had a remarkable season at Real Madrid, which culminated in scoring the winner against Liverpool in the Champions League final and it feels like he is about to fulfil the potential that saw the Spanish side sign the then 16-year-old for an eye-catching £38m fee in 2017.

Both players certainly had an eye for goal last season, with Gnabry (17) and Vinicius Jr (22) propelling their respective sides to glory, although the Brazilian had double the number of assists as Gnabry (16 to 8).

The two forwards generated over four shot-creating actions per 90 each with the Real Madrid star (5.19) just edging the German international (4.55) but these stats show both are extremely dangerous to the opposition.

Even in terms of defensive discipline, both players registered 90 or more combined tackles and interceptions made over the season (Gnabry 90 and Vinicius Jr 91), which shows a growing maturity.

Former Bayern manager Niko Kovac described Gnabry as a “real weapon” whilst Transfermarkt’s Stefan Bienkowski dubbed the player as “magic” with the 26-year-old having an excellent season last term, Klopp should be making his move sooner rather than later.

Tottenham: Conte personally green-lights another transfer

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has now given the green-light for his side to try and seal yet another signing this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Spurs not stopping…

The Lilywhites are currently enjoying their busiest transfer window of the last decade as a plethora of deals are already signed, sealed and delivered.

Conte and sporting director Fabio Paratici are seemingly working in tandem to make some big moves ahead of his first full Premier League season in charge of the north Londoners.

Spurs, having qualified for the Champions League next season, were subsequently handed a £150 million equity increase to tackle what has been an unprecedented transfer market thus far.

The Latest: Conte green-lights another move…

Now, according to reports out of Turkey, it appears Conte has his sights on yet another signing.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, Fanatik claim the Italian has given his personal green-light for Tottenham to move for Besiktas wing-back Ridvan Yilmaz.

This comes after a Spurs official was sent to run the rule over Yilmaz earlier this year with Conte now apparently approving a swoop for Besiktas’ defensive ace.

The Verdict: Make the move?

Amid Conte’s apparent desire to sign a wing-back on both flanks, right and left, could Yilmaz be an astute option for the left?

The 21-year-old has already managed call-ups to the Turkey national team at such a young age and his contract situation, which expires in 2023, could put Paratici in a very strong negotiating position.

Besiktas can hardly afford to demand extortionate fees for their left-back and perhaps Tottenham could be about to take full advantage, securing a cheap squad option who can grow and develop into a first XI player over time.

Lawerence could be Aribo 2.0 at Rangers

Rangers have been linked with signing free agent Tom Lawrence in recent weeks and the forward could be the ideal man to replace Joe Aribo at Ibrox.

The attacking midfielder is currently without a club after leaving Derby County upon the expiry of his contract at the Rams, with his excellent performances last season not quite enough to prevent the Midlands club from dropping into League One.

Rangers are one side said to be interested in signing the 28-year-old after his impressive 2021/22 campaign, and if he does join Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, it would be in a deal reminiscent to the one that saw Aribo arrive in 2019.

The Nigeria international also joined after seeing his contract with a lower league side expire, although Rangers were forced to pay £300,000 on that occasion due to his age.

The midfielders had also been the starring light in his side’s season, with his performances helping Charlton to promotion via the playoffs, with his ten goals and five assists attracting the interest of the Gers.

He has been a mainstay at Ibrox in the three years since and is now on the brink of a move back to England, with Southampton set to sign him in a deal worth around £10m, so van Bronckhorst will need a replacement.

Last season saw Lawrence manage 11 goals and five assists in the Championship for Derby, primarily featuring in an attacking midfield role, so he clearly performed very similarly to Aribo before his move to Ibrox.

Although he is three years older than the Nigerian, his experience in the Championship suggests that he could be an excellent addition by Ross Wilson this summer, especially if he can maintain his form from last season when playing for the Gers.

The Welshman has previously been described as a “fabulous talent” and shares a lot of similarities with Aribo, with WhoScored suggesting that both Aribo and Lawrence’s strengths include passing and dribbling, while both like to perform layoffs.

Therefore, considering the fact that he is available on a free transfer, would be signing from an English club and is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, the similarities with the Aribo deal are clear to see, and Wilson should definitely look at bringing him in on a bargain deal.

Leeds: Alex Crook drops striker update

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Leeds United have now made a bid for an unnamed striker.

The Lowdown: Forward hunt

Victor Orta has already brought in six players ahead of Jesse Marsch’s first full season in charge at a combined cost of £95m.

However, it seems as if the club’s summer spending will surpass £100m for the first time in their history, with a new forward wanted at Elland Road.

Club Brugge star Charles De Ketelaere and Paris Saint-Germain’s Arnaud Kalimuendo have both been linked with Leeds in recent weeks, and it looks as if the Whites have made their move when it comes to another attacking arrival.

The Latest: Crook’s comments

Talking to GiveMeSport, Crook said that he’s ‘been told’ that Leeds have made a bid for a striker. However, the journalist didn’t name who that forward is.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates-6/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“I have been told they’ve got a bid in for an unnamed striker.

“I don’t know who that is, but they want a bit of cover and a bit of competition for Patrick Bamford.”

The Verdict: Needed

Patrick Bamford made just seven Premier League starts last season due to a number of different injuries, which resulted in Marsch relying on youngster Joe Gelhardt for the run in.

Rodrigo has also been used in a deeper role, and with Tyler Roberts recently joining QPR on a season-long loan, a new senior centre-forward is definitely required.

It could be Orta’s most important deal of the summer so far, and if he can get the signing spot on to challenge both Bamford and Gelhardt, it should put Leeds in good shape for the new campaign.

Newcastle eyeing central midfield prospect

A teasing Newcastle United claim has emerged on the club’s plans for the rest of the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Jacque Talbot has revealed that the Magpies are in the market to strengthen their options in the middle of the park.

The reporter has stated that they want to bring in a player with potential and may wait until the latter end of August to do business.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s been some murmurs about a central midfielder [at Newcastle].

“They’re looking for a very young talent and if there’s one available, who can come in for a little bit of money, they’d do that towards the end of the window.”

Supporters will be delighted

This claim will leave Eddie Howe and the Toon Army delighted as they will surely be keen to see a talented young central midfielder arrive ahead of next season.

He already has Joelinton, Joe Willock, Jonjoe Shelvey, Bruno Guimaraes, and Sean Longstaff at his disposal and adding a young prospect to the mix is an exciting thought.

One player who has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park recently is Aston Villa and England U19 gem Carney Chukwuemeka. The Magpies are reportedly eyeing a deal to sign the teenager, who is in the last year of his deal, and he fits the profile of player Talbot believes they want.

At the age of 18, he is a ‘very young talent’ and he is seemingly available as Villa do not want to risk losing him on a free transfer next summer. This means that he could be the player Newcastle are crying out for if they are able to beat other teams to his services ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Chukwuemeka would be an exciting addition to the squad and bringing in a prospect with his potential, whether it ends up being him or another target, would leave the supporters and Howe buzzing.

Despite his young age, the Englishman has already racked up 12 outings in the Premier League for Villa and registered one assist. Talent scout Jacek Kulig called him a “superstar in the making” recently and this, along with his involvement in Steven Gerrard’s team, highlights his scope for development.

Howe would surely be keen to work with such a promising young player to help them fulfil their potential whilst making an impact on the pitch for Newcastle, which is why he will be delighted by Talbot’s claim.

Leeds: Pope relays transfer development

Adam Pope has relayed a behind-the-scenes Leeds United summer transfer development.

What’s the latest?

In a recent post on Twitter, the BBC Sport journalist relayed comments made by Jesse Marsch regarding the Whites’ remaining transfer business in the summer transfer window, with the 48-year-old manager confirming that Victor Orta is targeting the addition of a new left-back ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

In his tweet, Pope said: “Jesse Marsch confirms left-back search.”

Supporters will be buzzing

Considering the fact that both Stuart Dallas and Junior Firpo look set to miss the start of the Premier League season due to injury, in addition to many Leeds supporters clearly believing that the first-team could do with improvement at left-back ahead of 2022/23, the news that the club are looking to sign a new player in the position this summer is sure to have left the Elland Road faithful buzzing.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-more” title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, at present, Leif Davis is the club’s only recognised option on the left, however, the 22-year-old defender has played just 31 minutes of Premier League football for the Whites and is also being linked with a permanent move to League One side Ipswich Town.

Furthermore, considering just how much Firpo appeared to struggle with the pace of top-flight football last season – with the 25-year-old averaging a disappointing SofaScore match rating of just 6.60 in 2021/22, ranking him as Leeds’ seventh-worst performer in the league last term – it is easy to see why supporters do not overly trust the former Spain U21 international on the left of their backline.

As such, with Orta having been linked with moves for a number of exciting full-backs in recent weeks – including the likes of Nicolas Tagliafico, Sergio Gomez and Josh Tymon – Marsch’s confirmation that the club are hoping to sign a new player in the position ahead of the 2022/23 campaign is sure to come as music to the ears of supporters.

Forest can find Nkunku 2.0 with Plea swoop

With the number of new signings having entered into double figures for Nottingham Forest so far this summer, the newly-promoted club would be forgiven for enjoying a quieter end to the window, with much of their transfer activity having already been done.

However, on recent evidence, it would appear that Steve Cooper is keen to continue bolstering his squad right up until the September 1st deadline, with the Welshman hoping to have quality depth in all departments ahead of his team’s Premier League return.

One area which appears in particular need of strengthening is up front, despite the club-record arrival of Taiwo Awoniyi, following the exit of veteran ace Lewis Grabban and the return of loanee Keinan Davis to parent club Aston Villa.

One name which has emerged as a possible target ahead of next season to provide increased competition is that of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea, with a report in L’Equipe (via RMC Sport) naming the City Ground outfit as one of numerous clubs who are interested in the Frenchman.

The 29-year-old’s existing deal with the Bundesliga club is set to expire next summer, which means he could reportedly be available for as little as €8m (£6.7m) – a relative bargain fee for a player who has been a regular source of goals over the last few years in Germany.

The “extraordinary” marksman – as described by Gladbach legend Gunter Netzer – has recorded an impressive haul of 47 goals and 28 assists in 144 appearances across all competitions for his current club since joining from Nice in 2018.

That tally includes 15 goal contributions in the German top flight in the most recent campaign, with the one-cap France international showcasing his talents as both a scorer and provider of goals.

That fact is also rubberstamped by his form during his time in Ligue 1, as he bagged 44 goals and provided 23 assists in 135 games for Nice, notably scoring 16 league goals in his final campaign for the club during the 2017/18 season.

While perhaps not a high-profile name to some, it may no doubt interest those of a Forest persuasion that the Lille-born gem shares a likeness with RB Leipzig hotshot Christopher Nkunku, with the pair believed to have a number of statistical and stylistic similarities, as per FBRef.

That is some comparison considering the sparkling form that the latter has shown in recent years, with Nkunku having scored 32 goals and provided 20 assists in a stellar 2021/22 campaign.

That ruthless goalscoring form has unsurprisingly sparked interest from across the continent, with Arsenal having reportedly been considering a £100m move for the 24-year-old prior to his recent contract extension.

As such, Forest could well be able to land their own £100m predator in Plea for a mere fraction of that cost, with Cooper seemingly needing to act swiftly to get a deal done.
